रितु के पापा
पापा ने दूर से देखा कि पावस और रितु एक कोने में चुपचाप खड़े हैं , परेशान - से.पापा थोड़ा करीब गये और एक पेड़ के तने की ओट में खड़े हो गये . उन्हें आवाज आयी . पावस कह रहा था- रितु , तुम अपने पापा की बात मान लो . स्कूल में टीचर कहती हैं न कि हमें अपने पापा और मम्मी की बातें माननी चाहिए . अब हम नहीं मिलेंगे .

पापा ने रितु बुलाया और डांटते हुए कहा - देखो , आगे से कभी पावस के साथ मत खेलना . मैंने देख लिया तो अच्छा नहीं होगा . समझी , जाओ और पढ़ो वह वहां से चली गयी . रितु स्तब्ध थी . सोचा कि आज अचानक पापा को हो क्या गया ? वे तो हमें बहुत प्यार करते हैं , चॉकलेट देते हैं . उन्होंने ही तो पावस के साथ खेलने को भी कहा था . फिर आज क्या हुआ . सोचते - सोचते रितु का मन रो उठा . उसे सबसे बड़ी चिंता तो यह हुई कि अब खेलेगी किस के साथ , उसके तो कोई भाई बहन भी नहीं है . मां से कितनी ही बार तो कहा है कि एक भैया या बहन दोन . पावस से भी कहती- जब हमारा भैया या बहन लायेंगी तो तुम्हें भी उससे खेलने दूंगी , पावस खुश हो जाता . रितु की आयु लगभग 13 वर्ष है . पास ही अच्छे स्कूल में पढ़ती है . पावस भी उसी स्कूल में पढ़ता है . एक कक्षा सीनियर है . पावस फ्लैट रितु के टूटे - फूटे से मकान से बहुत दूर नहीं है , पावस के पिता पैसे वाले व्यापारी हैं और रितु के पिता दफ्तर में क्लर्क , दोनों ही स्कूल की बस से स्कूल जाते हैं . साथ - साथ खेलते हैं . एक - दूसरे पर विश्वास भी बहुत है . कभी - कभी रूठा - रूठी भी कर लेते थे , लेकिन जल्दी ही इधर पापा भी बेचैन थे . सोच रहे थे कि रितु को इतना क्यों डांट दिया ? रितु की तो को ई - बहन भी नहीं है . एक पावस ही तो है , जिसके साथ खेल लेती है . पावस के पापा ने से बात नहीं की तो उसमें रितु या पावस क्या दोष ? वे उठे और रितु को देखने आये , मां के पास नहीं थी . पूछने के बाद पता चला वह तो बाहर चली गयी थी . कहीं पावस के पास तो नहीं चली गयी , पापा ने सोचा और उन्हें फिर गुस्सा आने लगा . मां से बोले- तुमने क्यों जाने दिया उसे ? मां ने सहज भाव से कहा- रोज ही जाती है . पापा बोले - लंकिन आज क्यों गयी ? मैंने मना किया . उसने मेरी बात नहीं मानी . यह कहते हुए पापा बाहर चले गये . पापा ने दूर से देखा कि पावस और रितु एक कोने में चुपचाप से खड़े हैं परेशान - से पापा थोड़ा करीब गये और एक पेड़ के तने की ओट में खड़े हो गये . उन्हें आवाज आयी . पावस कह रहा था- रितु तुम अपने पापा की बात मान लो . स्कूल में टीचर कहती हैं न कि हमें अपने पापा और मम्मी की बातें माननी चाहिए . अब हम नहीं मिलेंगे . रितु ने रुआंसी होकर जवाब दिया- फिर हम किसके साथ खेलेंगे पावस ? हम अकेले कैसे रहेंगे ? पावस थोड़ा परेशान हुआ . बोला- रितु तुम रोओ मत , दुख तो मुझे भी है , पर रो नहीं रहे न ? हमारे ढेर सारे खिलौनों से भी कौन खेलेगा . अकेले खेलने में मजा भी कहां आता है . हमारी भी तो कोई बहन नहीं है . तुम आ जाती हो , तो मुझे भी तो बहुत अच्छा लगता है पर तुम रोओ मत रितु , तुम्हारा रोना मुझे अच्छा नहीं लगता . ठीक है मैं नहीं रोऊंगी , रितु ने आंखें पोंछते हुए कहा , जाती हूं , पता चला तो पापा मारेंगे . ठीक है और सुनो , जब हम बड़े हो जायेंगे , तब साथ - साथ खेलेंगे . तब अपने पापा कह कर मैं एक बड़ा - सा मकान भी बनवा लूंगा , पावस ने कहा , नहीं , हम अपने पैसों से ही मकान बनवायेंगे , पापा अच्छे नहीं होते , रितु बोली . रितु लौट पड़ी . पापा कुछ देर तक गुमसुम खड़े रहे . रितु थोड़ा दूर जा चुकी थी . वे पेड़ के तने की ओट से बाहर आये . पावस रितु को जाते हुए देख रहा था . एकदम उदास . लग रहा था कि बस अब रो देगा . उसे अपनी पीठ पर किसी हाथ का स्पर्श हुआ . वह चौंका , पीछे मुड़ा तो देखा रितु के पापा खड़े थे . अंकल आप ? पावस के मुंह से निकला थोड़ा घबराया , लेकिन संभल कर बोला- अंकल रितु मेरे ही कहने पर आयी थी . उसे पीटना नहीं . अब मैं कभी नहीं मिलूंगा . पापा कहीं से भी गुस्से में नहीं लग रहे थे , बल्कि उनकी आंखों से जैसे प्यार टपक रहा था . बोले- पावस , क्या तुम बहुत नाराज हो बेटे ? रितु को तो मैंने आज तक कभी नहीं पीटा . अब क्यों पीढूंगा . तुम दोनों बहुत अच्छे बच्चे हो .सच्ची अंकल , आप रितु को नहीं पीटेंगे न ? मैं सच कह रहा हूं कि अब हम कभी साथ साथ नहीं खेलेंगे , पावस ने कहा . नहीं पीढूंगा , पर साथ - साथ क्यों नहीं खेलोगे ? प्यार से पापा बोले . पावस चौंका , तब पापा ने खुश होकर कहा- अरे भाई , समझ लो कि थोड़ी देर को मैं भी रूठ गया था . अब मान गया हूं . तुम भी रूठ कर मान जाते हो न ? बस , यही समझ लो . जाओ और यह बात रितु को भी बता दो . पावस को तो बहुत अच्छा लगा . वह तो लगभग दौड़ ही पड़ा . रितु के पास जल्दी - से जल्दी पहुंचना  जो चाहता था , तभी पीछे से पापा की आवाज आयी- और सुनो , रितु को यह भी कह देना कि पापा अच्छे होते हैं .

 Papa saw from a distance that Pavas and Ritu are standing silently in one corner, disturbed. Papa went a little closer and stood on the trunk of a tree.  He heard a voice.  Pav was saying- Ritu, you obey your father.  The teacher in school says that we should obey our father and mother.  Now we will not meet.

 Papa called Ritu and scolded - Look, never play with Paavas again.  It will not be good if I see it.  Understood, go and read she left from there.  Ritu was shocked.  I thought what happened to my father suddenly?  They love us very much, give them chocolate.  He had also asked to play with Pavas.  Then what happened today?  While thinking, Ritu's heart woke up.  Her biggest worry was that now she will play with whom, she does not even have any siblings.  How many times have I told my mother that I am a brother or sister.  She would also say to Pawas - When our brother or sister brings you, you will also let me play with him, Pav would be happy.  Ritu is around 13 years old.  She studies in a good school nearby.  Pavas also studies in the same school.  One class is senior.  Pavas flat is not far from the house due to Ritu's break-up, Pavas's father is a money trader and Ritu's father is a clerk in the office, both go to school by school bus.  Play together.  There is also a lot of trust in each other.  Sometimes, he used to get angry, but soon father was also restless.  Wondering why scolded Ritu so much?  Ritu does not even have an e-sister.  There is only one power with which the game takes.  If Pav's father did not talk to him, what blame is there in Ritu or Pav?  He got up and came to see Ritu, the mother was not with him.  After asking, it was found out that she had gone out.  Didn't go anywhere with Pav, father thought and he started getting angry again.  He said to his mother - why did you let him go?  Mother said instinctively - She goes daily.  Father said - why did Lankin go today?  I refused .  He did not listen to me.  Saying this, father went out.  Papa saw from a distance that Pavas and Ritu are standing quietly in one corner, upset - Papa went a little closer and stood on the trunk of a tree.  He heard a voice.  Pav was saying- Ritu, obey your father.  The teacher in school says that we should obey our father and mother.  Now we will not meet.  Ritu repulsed, "Who will we play with again?"  How will we be alone?  Pavas got a bit upset.  Said- Ritu, don't you cry, I am sad too, but you are not crying?  Who will play with our many toys.  Where is the fun of playing alone too?  We too do not have a sister.  If you come, I too like it but you don't cry, I don't like your crying.  Well I will not cry, Ritu said wiping her eyes, she goes, I will kill my father if found out.  Okay and listen, we will play together when we grow up.  Then by saying my father, I will build a big house too, Pavas said, No, we will build houses with our own money, father is not good, Ritu said.  Ritu returned.  My father stood still for a while.  Ritu had gone a little far.  They came out of the trunk of the tree.  Pavas was watching Ritu go.  So sad  It seemed that the bus would cry now.  He touched a hand on his back.  He looked shocked, turned back and saw Ritu's father standing.  Uncle you?  A little nervous came out of the mouth of Pavas, but said carefully - Uncle Ritu came at my behest.  Do not beat him.  Now I will never meet.  Father did not seem angry from anywhere, but love was dripping from his eyes.  Said, Pav, are you very angry son?  I have never beaten Ritu till today.  Why will you read now?  You two are very good children.
