It was time that a story be told on the trials and tribunals of the problems that people from the North-east face. While the film released last year, it is now available on the OTT platform and makes for an interesting viewing for all those who are looking for meaningful cinema. More so after what has been happening in the country after the outbreak of the pandemic with people spitting at them and calling them 'Corona. Axone (pronounced Akhu-ni) revolves around a subject that is simple and yet gives a glimpse of what we think of people from the NE and the prejudice that we have towards what we think doesn't fit into our thinking mould. The film set in the backdrop of the Capital takes one on a journey that is bound to make us think and question our values – how we easily typecast people based on something as simple as the kind of food they eat even if it smells to high heaven. While the performance may be passable, it is the way the story unfolds and told through a series of comic situations – that is an eye-opener. It hits you hard because many of us have been guilty of holding on to our nose when we enter a fish market. Smelly dish for some of us but a delicacy and food to be enjoyed on certain occasions for others. Kudos for director Nicholas Kharkongor for making an effort to tell this story.
